Quebec City Simon Sez Drink Labatts

Simon, Jean Francois, Patric and me

I don't think there is any such thing as an ordinary mortal. Everybody his own possibility of rapture in the experience of life. All he has to do is recognize it and then cultivate it and get going with it.I always feel uncomfortable when people speak about ordinary mortals because I've never met an ordinary man, woman, or child.

Lac Saint Jean Saguenay-Make It Blue

The beauty of the boundless blue, on the banks of the river and the world's largest  fjord.

The Wilderness is therapy.

All these associations are speaking the same old story of finding the eternal life in the temporal. That's the problem of our existence, you might say to read through our temporal experience the eternal life that we are experiencing.

The Manhattan Project-Unique New York

The Hero's Journey, refers to Joseph Campbell's  basic pattern found in many narratives from around the world. It starts with sacrifice, from sacrifice comes bliss.

My general formula for my students is"Follow your bliss." Find where it is, and don't be afraid to follow it. Joseph Campbell
The Power of Myth pp. 120, 149

Bill Moyers: Did you ever have the sense of... being helped by hidden hands?

Joseph Campbell: All the time. It is miraculous. I even have a superstition that has grown on me as a result of invisible hands coming all the time - namely, that if you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in your field of bliss, and they open doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don't be afraid, and doors will open where you didn't know they were going to be.

From Thomas Jefferson To Forrest Gump

At the Mall in Washington , Our Nation’s Most Venerated Civic Space ..I feel like Forrest Gump, who lucks into every major event in the past 40 years. No villian, no ticking clock, no burning fuse, just me doing stuff all over the planet. That movie does, what traveling does for me, makes me feel more alive.

Bubba: Have you ever been on a real shrimp boat?
Forrest Gump: No, but I've been on a real big boat

Washington DC The audacity of hYpe

The future is already here. It's just not quite evenly distributed yet. It's nice to visit our nations capital. Makes me think of Robin Hood soaking the rich with taxes and Joe the Plumber taking a pay cut.

My role models are  Nixon, who opened up China, and Reagan, who said government doesn't solve problems, it subsidizes them. Nevertheless, my all-time favorite Chief Executive who I consider the Michael Richards (Kramer) of the 1800's, is Abraham Lincoln, who. said "Whatever you are, be a good one" and. "It has been my experience that folks who have no vices have very few virtues."

Honorable mention goes to JFK, all the way, who biographers say was more famous for what he said (his speeches like Ich bin Ein Berliner and Ask not what your country can do for you...) but I think over time he has become famous for who he did, the Tiger Woods of the oval office.

Charlston, South Carolina Palmetto Trees, Insulin Shock and Awe

The South Rises Again

Charlston  is  beautiful and gorgeous. Took a horse drawn carriage tour of the French Quarter; then made my way up to the Citadel to see the Lords of Discipline. They were out at the parade ground marching and drilling. The PT was amazing, fireman carrys across the football field. Monster tire tosses as relay races. It is one of the most idisycratic institutions of the South.  Everything is still in its place, the gigantic Confederate flag, and Old Glory and the flag of South Carolina's seccession from The Union.

The irony of this all? The Driver of my horse-drawn carriage tour, let's call him Will McLean, was a 2006 grad of The Citadel. He showed me his ring. Shouldn't he be off with USMC Uncle Sam's misguided children. His self imposed expatriation had a remorseless medeival splendor about it, giving his devotion to duty as a tour guide and his unapologetic capitulation from the military.

Went to The Art Institute, some galleries, bought some canvas from a supplier and ate fudge. There are chocolate and ice cream vendors everywhere. I'm coo coo for coco puffs happy about that.

So what is the difference between a Palmetto Tree and a Palm Tree...about the same difference between a crocodile and an alligator....not much.

"Happiness is an accident of nature, a beautiful and flawless aberration."
