Fish Hoek-Old Dog New Tricks
Calling on Cape Town-
The winds are high, and after an overnight delay, we finally docked in this beautiful port city. Spent the day driving around, and seeing the sites in this coastal suburb of Cape Town.
Properly trained, a man can be dog's best friend |
On my way to Fish Hoek-Northern Bay---the views from all over are absolutely priceless |

Final Leg of the world cruise starts from here tomorrow |
Apr 15,16-17 | Cape Town, South Africa (overnight) » | Embark pm
With majestic Table Mountain as a backdrop, Cape Town occupies one of the most dramatic locations in the world. Its eclectic mix of architectural styles reflects the tastes and dictates of the past, in tandem with the 20th century's more functional demands. Edwardian and Victorian buildings have been meticulously preserved and there are several outstanding examples of Cape Dutch architecture. Cobble-stoned streets, mosques and the flat-roofed pastel houses of the Malay Quarter showcase the city's cosmopolitan ambiance. Nearby, images of seafaring activities from the 1800s are evoked at the recently-restored Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. Magnificent Cape Town is justifiably famous as the "Mother City" of South Africa.

Apr 20, Wednesday | Walvis Bay, Namibia » | 8 am | 6 pm |
The busy industrial town of Walvis Bay lies at the dramatic juxtaposition of ocean and desert. Its development began in 1878, when Commander Richard C. Dryer took possession of the port and settlement in Queen Victoria's name. In March 1994, following extensive negotiations with the Republic of South Africa, Walvis Bay and its offshore islands were incorporated into the Republic of Namibia. Highlights of Walvis Bay include an impressive Civic Center and the Rhenish Mission Church, which was build in Hamburg in 1880 before being dismantled and shipped to these shores. Our visit to Namibia provides rare insight into one of Southwest Africa's most fascinating regions.

Although located on the Atlantic coast, Lisbon has the soul of a Mediterranean city with Moorish castles, pastel and white buildings, orange-tiled roofs and luminous blue skies. Durban, South Africa-ImagiNATION
If you build it they will leave. The streets of Durban are deserted, except for this White Elephant |
Sailing into Durban this morning was peaceful |
A bouquet of barbed wire awaits the visitor to Durban. |
Power Verses Force-Fear is a misuse of imagination, but you don't need to be a Walt Disney Imagineering Intern to figure out, that when the hospital has barbed wire around it, in fact, the whole town is full of these thorny fences, these PPL are crazy delicious over using barbed wire like a bikini-just enough to protect the "property" without obstructing the view. The FEAR acronym is at work- False Evidence Appearing Real-- except for the fact that the locals tell me it is TEAR (True). Soon I'll be in Cape Town or will it be Cape Fear?
There are over 530 patented barbed wires, and I counted at least 2,000 variations of them used here in town. All that's missing is the guard towers and the machine guns and we could all go on like it was Disneyland!
The downtown "Miracle Mile" art deco must have been like Miami beach in its heyday 15-20 years ago. The only thing miraculous was the fact that I didn't get car jacked., considering my driver ran into a bit of bad luck, robbed twice in 6 months by gun point. Had to call on all my magical powers to raise the vibrational level. It worked.
